Contents.Production Iginio Straffi conceived the idea for Winx Club in the mid-1990s while studying the animation industry. By 2000, he and his animation studio had developed a for the series, then titled Magic Bloom. This animation included many concepts that would eventually appear in the series, such as the five original Winx members and the Trix, but the characters were younger and their outfits were not modelled after fashion trends. The pilot garnered the support of Italy's public broadcasting company, but Straffi was unsatisfied with the final product. He made the decision to scrap the animation and heavily rework the concept, despite a financial investment of over €100,000 in the completed pilot.Production on the retooled series was underway by 2002, and Rainbow estimated that the episodes would be delivered to distributors by autumn 2003.

Fate: The Winx Saga is an upcoming young adult drama series based on the Nickelodeon animated series Winx Club,[1] created by Iginio Straffi. It is produced by the Rainbow studio, which is co-owned by Straffi and ViacomCBS. Iginio Straffi serves as an executive producer alongside showrunner Brian Young, Judy Counihan, and Kris Thykier. Thykier's company, Archery Pictures, is also involved in the production.[3] The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2020.[4]
Iginio Straffi had planned to adapt Winx Club into live action as early as 2011.[5] Before starting production on the project, Straffi gained experience with live-action television shows, working as a producer for Nickelodeon's Club 57.[6] Principal photography for Fate eventually began in September 2019 in Ireland.
According to Straffi, the series is aimed at adult fans of the cartoon.[6] In a 2019 interview, he called it 'edgier and darker than what they can imagine.'[6]Fate is co-directed by Lisa James Larsson and Hannah Quinn.[1][7]
Cast[edit]
The following cast members were announced on 17 September 2019.[2]
Eve Best, Eva Birthistle, Josh Cowdery, Robert James-Collier, and Alex Macqueen have also been cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles.[2]
Production[edit]Development[edit]
In a 2011 interview with Screen International, Iginio Straffi first mentioned that he hoped to adapt Winx Club into live action as opposed to animation.[5] At the Ischia Global Fest in 2013, Straffi stated that he was continuing to plan a project 'with the Winx in flesh and blood, played by real actors. Sooner or later it will be done.'[8] At the time, Straffi had only worked on animated productions, so he transitioned his focus to live action over the next few years.[6] After working as a producer for the live-action show Club 57,[6] Straffi announced in March 2018 that a young adult adaptation of Winx Club would enter production.[9]
Casting calls were held in August 2019.[10][11] The show's filming began in Ireland in September 2019 in Wicklow.[12] Brian Young is the showrunner for the series,[12] and executive produces with Judy Counihan, Kris Thykier, and Iginio Straffi.[13] Lisa James Larsson and Hannah Quinn are directing the series.[1][12] The first season's primary filming location was Ashford Studios, where the series Vikings is also filmed.[14]
